Trsteno Arboretum

Gardens and Neptune fountain at Trsteno Arboretum
Trsteno Arboretum is the oldest arboretum in this part of the world, laid out around a 15th-century Renaissance summer residence of the Gučetić-Gozze noble family. Its lush gardens are filled with exotic and Mediterranean plants, towering centuries-old plane trees, citrus groves and sea views, making it a peaceful and atmospheric place to wander. Highlights include the ornate Neptune fountain, the old aqueduct, the historic mansion and pathways leading down towards the sea. Fans of Game of Thrones may recognise the gardens as a filming location for the show. Good to know: There is an entrance fee (around €10), and tickets may be cash only – it is worth bringing some euros. Wear comfortable shoes for the sloping paths, and allow an hour or two to explore. Check opening hours before you go, as it can occasionally close in strong wind.
