Snježnica

Snježnica
Snježnica is the southernmost ridge of the Dinaric Alps in Croatia, rising above Konavle south of Dubrovnik. Its summit, Ilijin vrh (Sveti Ilija) at 1234 m, is the highest point in the Dubrovnik-Neretva county and the southernmost mountain ridge over 1000 m in the country. A 19th-century stone chapel of St. Elijah, after which the peak is named, stands just east of the top. Two marked trails lead to the summit: a longer route from Mihanići and a shorter one from the village of Kuna Konavoska. The slopes are covered in fragrant Mediterranean herbs, and the mountain is the only remaining Croatian habitat of the rare mandrake plant.
