Dubrovnik Old Town
Dubrovnik's Old Town is the highlight of any visit to the region, a beautifully preserved medieval city wrapped in massive stone walls overlooking the Adriatic. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, its marble-paved main street (the Stradun), baroque churches, lively squares and hidden alleys are a joy to explore on foot.
The top experience is walking the city walls, which circle the whole town and offer breathtaking views over the red rooftops and the sea. Other highlights include the Rector's Palace, the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries, and riding the cable car up Mount Srđ for a panoramic view from above.
Good to know:
The Old Town is pedestrian-only, so wear comfortable shoes. Mornings and evenings are the most pleasant times to visit, as it can get busy and warm in the middle of the day. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops tucked within the walls.
